MERMEC joins Air France and KLM's SAF Corporate programme to reduce the environmental impact of air travel.

Milan, 19th October, 2021 – Air France-KLM Group and MERMEC have signed an agreement that will enable the high-tech multinational rail company to take a more responsible approach to business travel.

By supporting Air France-KLM’s “Corporate Biofuel” programme, which involves the transition from the use of conventional fossil fuels to SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), MERMEC will be able to reduce the CO2 emissions of its air travel by at least 75%, further reinforcing the commitment and initiatives undertaken in the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Global Compact, of which both Air France-KLM and MERMEC are members.

“The adoption of sustainable aviation fuels, together with the continuous renewal of the fleet, is of fundamental relevance to achieving the CO₂ reduction targets in air sector.” said Fabio Andaloro, Sales Director Air France-KLM Italy. ” We have recently added two new milestones to this path: the delivery of the first of 60 new Airbus A220s, a new generation aircraft capable of reducing CO₂ emissions by 20%, and the agreement with MERMEC. Thanks to this agreement, we will be able to reach our goals much faster, stimulating the availability of sustainable aviation fuel on a large scale and making its price more competitive compared to fossil fuels.”

“Support for the Air France-KLM SAF Corporate program represents a further step forward in the path towards full sustainability.” said Angelo Petrosillo, VP International Sales of MERMEC.” The environment is a primary resource and we are committed to safeguarding it, seeking in our activities a balance between economic initiatives and essential environmental needs, taking into account the rights of future generations. The introduction of a less polluting biofuel goes in this direction as well as the many internal initiatives already launched by the company, such as the energy self-sufficiency through the use of photovoltaic panels, the protection of resources, the recycling or reuse of waste materials. Continuing on this path with Air France-KLM as our strategic partner will help us reduce CO₂ emissions during air travel while serving our customers around the world.

The SAF program of the Air France-KLM group offers companies to play an active role in the future of sustainable travel: corporate customers of airlines, after estimating the COo emissions associated with their travel, can determine the annual contribution they wish to make to that program.
